The Meatloaf Ministry was organized at St. Patrick Church in 1983 with a sole purpose of providing meatloaves once a month for the House of Bread in Hartford, Connecticut. This ministry continues at Our Lady of Knock Parish today, consisting of individuals and families from the parish who are willing to prepare meatloaves for the hungry and those in need.
Historically, the members of the ministry have participated in one “meatloaf weekend” each for 11 months of the year, bringing a meatloaf prepared at home on that week so that it can be delivered to the House of Bread. While some choose to participate only once or twice a year, some members of the ministry are have been extremely generous with their time and skill, preparing a meatloaf every month for donation..
One 2-pound meatloaf feeds 6 to 8 people, and it is a versatile staple that is enjoyed by the homeless and prepared by the House of Bread cooking staff in dinners, lunches, and breakfasts. This makes the work of our Meatloaf Ministry a truly useful and important work for the community.
In addition to the preparation of meatloaves, information about the broader ministry to the House of Bread can be found here.
